Police said the operation was part of a Europe wide coordinated speeding campaign (TISPOL) that sees all forces/nations aiming to counter-speeding on roads across the continent. The next day, Sunday August 28, police positioned on the A500 recorded 60 speeding offences in the space of 90 minutes – with the highest speed recorded being 72mph in the 50mph zone. One motorist, a 28-year-old man, who was stopped along the A50 was recorded at travelling at 92mph before failing a drug test – he was later bailed. Over ten per cent of those detected were exceeding speeds of 100mph, within a 70mph zone – with the highest speed recorded at 111mph. On Saturday (August 27) officers recorded 120 motorists exceeding the speed limit over three hours while positioned along the A50 between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter. Staffordshire Police targeted speeding motorists along two busy roads over the bank holiday weekend.
